Concrete

Concrete or cement is a composite material used in construction, consisting essentially of a bonding agent to which particles or fragments of an aggregate are added along with water and specific additives.

Placement and pouring

Pouring fresh concrete into the formwork must be carried out in such a manner so as to avoid segregation of the mixture. To achieve this, pouring from great heights should be avoided; a maximum of two meters free fall is advisable and the mass should not be displaced. The same is applied horizontally by relatively thin layers or batches to allow good compaction (up to 40 cm for mass concrete and 60 cm for reinforced concrete). The various layers or batches are successively consolidated, each layer bonding with the previous one with the compaction method utilised and prior to the hardening of the previous layer.
